Curtin University of Technology
A forerunner in GIS education

Curtin University of Technology is Western Australia's largest university with over 40,000 students, over 17,000 of those offshore and onshore international students and nearly 2000 research students. The university takes its name from the former prime minister of Australia from 1941-1945, John Curtin.

Curtin University of Technology is a world-class, internationally focussed institution. A culturally diverse university, the university fosters tolerance and encourages the development of the individual. Their programmes centre around the provision of knowledge and skills to meet industry and workplace standards. A combination of first-rate resources, staff and technology makes Curtin a forerunner in tertiary education both within Australia and internationally.

Curtin offers over 850 undergraduate and postgraduate courses in business, engineering, health sciences, humanities, science, mining and agriculture. The Department of Spatial Sciences offers several undergraduate, postgraduate and research courses in the fields of GIS, surveying, remote sensing, cartography and other allied technologies.

The undergraduate courses in Surveying include – Bachelor of Surveying, Bachelor of Surveying, Bachelor of Commerce (Entrepreneurship) and Bachelor of Surveying, Bachelor of commerce (Property).

The Bachelor of Surveying course aims to develop the knowledge and skills to measure and collect information concerning the earth's surface and its features, using satellite and terrestrial methods; precisely locate engineering structures for their design, development and maintenance using modern survey and satellite positioning techniques; develop and utilise geographic and land information systems for analysis of earth resources data in environmental management applications; plan and design the subdivision of land for industrial and housing developments; manage major surveying and land management projects involving multi-disciplinary teams of professionals. The surveying course is fully accredited by the prestigious Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The Bachelor of Surveying is offered by the Department of Spatial Sciences at the Bentley campus in Perth. Flexible learning approaches are a feature of the Surveying degree with extensive use of online learning.
